The plan was always to expand, but having only opened three days prior the Covid-19 shutdown, they had to pause and concentrate on keeping their initial location afloat. With zero government aid and great support from the community, Bequest’s first-time business owners kept their Mill Creek location going strong. “We were the only shop open during the pandemic,” Gomes told What Now Seattle in an interview on Thursday.

They are very passionate about customer service. “We love people. We always say we are not in the coffee business; we are in the people business serving coffee,” Gomes said. She leads the front of house with Co-Owner Vinny Gomes overseeing the barista side of things and Co-Owner Lily Edwards focusing on the food aspects. Also, Co-Owner Vaz Bagdasaryan came into the mix two years after opening as their “Master Cook.” All four work together to ensure quality products are used and the best service is available for their customers.

Everything served is made in house — breakfast, paninis, pastries, and even the syrups and sauces they use. With good reason, they’re very particular about the coffee they serve. They even have their own house blend and are partnered with South Seattle company, Middle Fork Roasters, that roasts for them. You’ll also find gluten free and vegan options on the menu as they “want to serve everyone.”

The second location will be approximately 1000 square feet with “39 seats” inside along with outdoor seating options also, Gomes said. There are no plans to change up the menu, but the team will adapt to the area’s requests which garnered customer loyalty at their first location. Plans are in effect to open in April 2023, but follow their Instagram for updated details.
