While an official opening date has yet to be released, Dave’s is described as a story of four friends who dared to dream big and created a sensation that would spread its fiery wings far and wide. Dave Kopushyan, Arman Oganesyan, Tommy Rubenyan, and Gary Rubenyan came together to embark on a journey that would “redefine” the world of hot chicken.

Dave’s background came from being a seasoned chef trained in the renowned organization of Thomas Keller’s French Laundry. Together, the four friends scrounged up a mere $900, a humble sum that would kickstart their venture.

Their menu aims to be simple, and unpretentious, with a single-star—chicken. But not just any chicken. This chicken was carefully sourced and meticulously prepared to ensure it was the juiciest and most tender imaginable. Then came the “pièce de résistance”—Dave’s signature blend of spices, ranging from the mild “No Spice” to the “The Reaper.”

The word about their hot chicken creation began to spread like wildfire, stated to be attributed to Arman’s ability to create a buzz on Instagram. The lines at their tiny stand in that East Hollywood parking lot began to snake around the corner. Just two nights later, Eater/LA arrived on the scene, eager to taste what the fuss was all about. The resulting headline said it all, “East Hollywood’s Late-Night Chicken Stand Might Blow Your Mind.”

A year later, the group had amassed enough funds to open a proper shop, nestled in a strip mall. The décor was a canvas for local street artists to work their magic, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere. Dave’s Hot Chicken was no longer a local secret; it had then expanded across the United States, Canada, UAE, and Qatar. With a “cult-like” following, the humble beginning of Dave’s in an East Hollywood parking lot transformed into a global sensation, according to the company website.
