A representative of My Friend Derek’s was not immediately available for commentary upon What Now Seattle’s request.

According to the article, an official opening date has yet to be announced either. However, according to the Daily Herald, “No one makes a better Detroit-style pie in Western Washington than this Fremont pop-up. It’s got a spongy dough with that caramelized cheese embossed into the buttery crust.”

“Derek Reiff’s square pies have such a cult following that he often sells out within 30 minutes when he takes orders online. Psst: I spy that Reiff has been scouting real estate around town to turn his overnight pop-up sensation into a full-scale pizzeria. Reiff was outbid for the space that’s now Reuben’s Tasting Room in Fremont, but he is bent on landing a brick-and-mortar off the main drag of Fremont or Wallingford.”

My Friend Derek’s website states, “Seven years ago I wanted to stop eating too much shitty, national-chain pizza after I’d come back from long runs. I thought “How hard can pizza be?” Harder than that. So I started experimenting. Four years pass. Then the pandemic hit, and I needed to keep busy. So here we are.”

“I guess this is “underground pizza.” If you like it tell your friends and come back for more! But also if you don’t like it, I want you to have your money back! And if you really like it, throw a party here if you want,” the website adds.
