According to a recent article from Capitol Hill Seattle Blog, José Garzón will soon open a new concept called Bad Chancla at 1525 E Olive Way.

“The plan is to open sometime in March of 2024. Just like all the other concepts we’ve brought to Seattle, this one is based on Latin street food. We’ve been a late-night spot in Downtown Seattle for almost 2 years and now we’re giving the lunch game a try. It’s a different scene but we’re always down for a challenge,” owner and chef José Garzón told What Now Seattle.

“The menu will be straightforward. Bodega-style sandwiches like the Dominican “Riki Taki” (Picadillo beef, small diced potatoes, tomatoes, macerated cabbage, mayo, hard-boiled eggs) Puerto Rican “Tripletas” and more. Rice bowls like “Ropa Vieja” and our classic “CHEPO BOWL” (white rice, guisada beans, salsa criolla, and house sauces). It will be fast, affordable, and super delicious!”

“BC is our love letter to first-gen Latinx Americans and millennial immigrants. The ones that grew up eating turkey + rice and beans on Thanksgiving and champurrado at midnight on Noche Buena (Latin Christmas). Our English is not perfect, our Spanish has an American accent and we’re too foreign for Americans and they call us “gringos” in our own country,” Garzón adds.

According to the previously mentioned article, “Garzón and the crew of “Latinx street food” collaborators have been busy beyond any one restaurant’s walls, growing with pop-ups, events, and link-ups like Garzón, inside Belltown’s Black Cat Bar, that explore chifa — Chinese dishes made with South American flavors popular in Peru and Ecuador, Garzón’s home nation.”

“It will also be powered to Garzón’s preference as an “all-electric kitchen” adding a menu for takeout and pick-up for lunch and dinner to E Olive Way’s dense mix of bars, casual restaurants, and lounges. Garzón says Bad Chancla will be an opportunity for growth and experimentation. “In the past, we’ve stayed very close to tradition. Representation has been a huge deal for us when developing concepts for pop-ups and events. With Bad Chancla we are taking it one day at a time.”
